ok, this is a 17 inch crt monitor. as soon as i plug it in, whether i hit the switch or not, it starts flashing on and off, and emits a burning smell. it does not matter whether it is plugged into a computer or not. The only way to get it to stop is to unplug it.

p.s.- nothing shows up on the screen while this is happening.

it ur moniter new? or did u get it used at a garage sale.
if its used then sumtin might hav gotten into the electrics. lik a bug or a piece of metal. or your switch could b broke. the on/off switch controls the electrical flow 2 the moniter. the switch cood b shorted to a ground. sounds like the switch is bad kuz u dont turn it on and it flashes. switch is prolly shorted to a ground fault.also chek the fuse. if the primary fuse is bad the screen might b flashin to indcate it needs serivce. k?
