rca hi fi vcr now says safe when powered on?

How do I get my vcr to function or is it fubar?
Started saying safe when powered up about a week ago.
Cant do anything with it?

Try holding the Power (or VCR1) button down on your remote for 8 seconds. That should do the trick (or at least it worked for me). Happy Holidays!
