Hotpoint wm 52 : Does the motor have to be removed to fit new brushes?

I am wanting to fit new carbon brushes to the motor, is it possible to fit them with the motor in position, or does it have to be removed? Any special tools required to remove old brushes?
Any advise appreciated.

no moter does not have to be removed use a small flat bladed screw driver to remove old ones
