why does my cd disc drive not spin?

I've got a sony CMT-CP500MD mirco hi-fi componment system and when i enter a CD it just doesnt spin at all.
any ideas?

Do a search, and you'll find several ansers. Could be a misguided laser, a dirty laser or a bad spindle motor.

The laser will attempt to focus on the CD before spinning, if spinning don't happen then the laser failed to focus either cos it is dirty or dead.
