There is possibly a broken wire in the footplate micro switch wiring.The regular folding and unfolding the footrest (and armrest) fractures the wire inside the covering. My opinion is it is a design fault as wire was never designed to act as a hinge. The footplate wiring is a loom to all micro switches attached to the base plate but nearly all wires in the loom will be close to fatigue.
