We have had flashing and repointing done but walls are not drying out but ?

We have had our chimney repointed and the flashing on the back and side approns replaced and sealed. The problem is the walls are still stained. The damp is not spreading but if we put a heater on it this drys a bit but then when we leave it the stains retreat to where they were before. Any ideas?

Thanks for your answer. I could not remember which web site I placed the question and it has taken me ages to find it. Now added to favourites.

The walls dry out if we open the windows on a sunny day but once we close the windows the damp starts to come back again. Anyone got any bright ideas. We were thinking that the damp may have become trapped within the plaster and that we need to remove the plaster and let the walls dry out completely. The flashing has definitely worked. The outside is rendered but that looks ok.

Damp problem., May 2009
it may take months to completely dry out the wall
its best to use cool air to dry it out as warm air will
allow bacteria and fungus to grow.
