The gas to air ratio is incorrect to your fire burner.Probably a chunk of dust in the injector port.As Peccavi says,best to get it serviced.

Soot could be (probably is) caused by incomplete combustion causing Carbon Monoxide which is Dangerous.

Best to get fire serviced.
