why does front brake caliper(abs) on ford escort fail to release ?

if you still have fault on- you could check the following- where the pad retaining pin fits,there is a small stainless bit that clips into calliper, if you prise it out you will find it to be rusty where it pushes in to calliper thus making it stick on when brake released, clean with emery,put stainless bit back,refit pin and check.please reply if it cures it.

bg is right..... when i changed pads on my 1997 escort i had same prob and it turned out to be rubber/plastic brake hose from caliper to metal brake pipe(quite common on escorts) squashing on inside (you cant really see it)..i put new hose on and it cured prob

Could possably be a rubber brake line going to caliper is coming apart inside causing this or a bad caliper

A common problem is the slider pins corroded, they are the two allen headed bolts that hold the piston to the carrier that allow the piston to slide, either try to clean them up or better to replace and when refitting use plenty of "copperslip" grease
