the impeller has become detached from your water pump get somone to check if the water is being returned to your expansion bottle by disconnecting the return pipe from the bottle( its about 12mm in diameter) and raise the rpm to about 2500 rpm if water does not flow consistently from the pipe you need to get the water pump changed this is a very common fault on vw s
