NINTENDO DS LITE SCREEN STAYS BLANK?

MY NINTENDO DS SCREEN COMES ON SOMTIMES, THE LIGHT IS GREEN WHEN I SWITCH IT ON BUT THE SCREENS OR THE SOUND DOESNT COME ON, ALTHOUGH IT DID A COUPLE OF TIMES. WHEN I CHARGE IT THE COLOUR OF THE LIGHT IS ORANGE, IS THIS SURPOSED TO BE ORANGE?
