I have diagnosed so far that the linkage needs repairing of my wipers. I cannot remove the 'scuttle' (the black cover on the front of the motor)
Can some body tell me if this comes off? Or should I, as the Haynes manual says, remove the wiper-motor?

Help please.

If it's the single wiper (a la C series) it just levers off each side of it. You need strong fingers. The mechanism should be greased every couple of years because they can be expensive if neglected.
