dyson dc05?

Hi i have a dyson dc05 but recently the cable doesn't stay out and on it's own it starts to retract i presume there must be some form of clutch in the thing but can it be replaced and how the hell do you get at it?

As far as Ican see you have to open the machine to get the cable unit out. To do this you will need to use two big screwdrivers to carefully remove the wheels, just keep applying pressure until the wheel will suddenly pop off. Make sure you have the cleaner on a table or bench so you dont get a fright and drop it! Once the wheels are off you will see two screws exposed on either side of the housing, these need a torex screwdriver to undo. Once these are undone the motor casing can be split open. This reveals the cord reel which can now be lifted out as one assembly. After that you are on your own as I havent needed to repair mine yet. I have seen new cable assemblies advertised on ebay at a reasonable price.
good luck
