Error message E1 on Waterside MC250?

I have a water softner that I restarted after a lapse of over a year. After mending a leaking problem I finally manage to get it started. Unfortunately now I get an error message E1 on the display. I am unable to find the definition and solution of this error. Can any body tell me what is this error and how to get rid of it.
