have fisher and pakel e442b fridge wont go ointo defrost ?

fridge runs ok but wont go into defrost and the evaporator ices up causeing the fridge to run hot and the top compartment light flashes all the time

Probably have a faulty sensor in the freezer compartment. The flashing light in the fridge compartment is a fault code warning. Does it beep at all & if so how many beeps? Does the light flash a particular number of times?
