Worcester 28i boiler...no hot water!!?

Before I contact british gas/heating engineer I thought I would give you a go first. I was having a shower and the water turned cold. The boiler is making a whirring noise but no water or heating. Is there a way of re-igniting it or will it be something more serious?

can you hear clicking from behind the control panel? it could be a sticking solenoid on the pcb.they are around £80-100..ouch
