check emmissions light on, why?

my "check emmissions" light has come on on my scenic 1.6 2004 dashboard, have taken it to local garage and they think its a camshaft sensor. Does anyone know if this is right

Could be the camshaft sensor, If the vehicle makes a rattling noise on cold start up it could also be a fault with the dephaser pulley.
