Mower wont start?

I have a Craftsman lawn mower that wont start it is a 6.5 hp. Model #917.378460 with Ele.Start it i have checked the spark
disconnected any cut out wires and sprayed starting fluid in the carb.
still nothing, also checked key in fly wheel all good. I don't know what the compression should be, there is compression should be enough to start it. Any Ideas???
Thank You AL

Al, its just possible that your mower engine could be flooded with excess fuel, so take the spark plug out and crank the engine over a few times to expel any excess petrol. If the plug is wet this indicates a flooding problem. If the plug is dry however this could indicate that fuel is not getting through - starting fluid contains ether which is normally only successful in starting diesel engines, not petrols. Try a few drops of petrol down the plug hole to see if the engine fires up.
