How to fix my Navman F20 because I voided warranty when I took it apart?

I have a problem with my Navman F20. The place where I plug the unit into my 12volt charger has broken. Now I know that there are only 2 wires in the charger, 1 red & 1 black. Is there a way I can wire it directly to my F20? I believe the 90 degree angle on the charging cord stressed the little plug inside the unit until it eventually broke completely off of the circuit board. But I thought since there's only the 2 wires coming from the charging cord that I could hook them up directly. I'm assuming the red wire is the 12volt feed & the black wire is the ground. If there is any way someone could help me with my problem it would be greatly appreciated. I really love the system, and miss it greatly. Since I travel a lot with my work, I would love to get this unit working properly again. Thank you in advance for any suggestions or advice you may have on my problem.

Hi Dazza
My wifes F20 had the same fault.
can you supply more details.

A colleague has openened it up, but came across the 9 wires. We have tried to get a circuit diagram to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi,
I recently acquired a Navman F20 System with a broken USB charging port (Was rattling around inside the unit).

Having read on a number of forums that this was difficult/impossible to repair I felt like a challenge had been laid down in front of me and so set about repairing it!

I took the case apart to find thre are 9 points to solder (4 legs in the 4 corners) and 5 very fiddly pins to solder back onto the board.

It is now re-assembled and in perfect working order....for nothing more than a bit of patience, a very steady hand and a bit of solder.

If anyone would like more info, let me know.

Alternatively, for a small charge (In comparison with Navman's) I will carry out the repair.

Option 3, would you be interested in selling your broken unit to me?

Thanks

This is not easily fixed and as per previous answer a common fault. If you want to keep your satnav without spending a fortune on a repair I suggest you buy the T1 traffic pack add on on Ebay. This clips onto the base of your unit and powers the unit from a different point. (not the broken usb) You get a work around and an upgrade !
