I have just repaired a lon case clock. The makers name on the chapter ring is Thos Cartwright - London.

Tjhe case is shabby but the clock keeps perfect time.

You should contact an up-market auctioneer house - if you mention the maker's name they will waste no time getting to you. Even if it's by a different Cartwright or an immitation they wil know. They will confirm the origins and date and offer a probable value in the hope that they get the opportunity to sell it one day. They will not charge you.

Thomas Cartwright was apprenticed to Christopher Gould. He worked in Royal Exchange and later became Clockmaker to King George I.
