How can I fix my Miele W2240?

How can I fix my Miele W2240 washing machine. It does not take in the softener/conditioner from the soap tray. I have cleaned the tray in very hot water to dissolve any residue left in the syphon. I have tried on several wash cycles to no avail. Please help before I call in the engineer from Germany.
