Hi, I got the thread out which was stuck but I can't make the feed-dog stay up to sew. There is a lever or switch to the right of the bobbin casing but it just won't stay up, any ideas?

You will need to slacken the screw that is on that lever, push the teeth up and keep the lever in the up position and then tighten the screw.
