removal of door lock on mk3 ford fiesta 3 door?

the locking mechanism is within a steel cover that is attached to the window guide rail. My book suggests drilling some rivets, however the cover seems to be attached (welded or pressed) along the entire length of its interface with the guide rail. I cannot see any rivets. Any ideas how i get past the cover

there are no rivets you will need a sharp knife and cut thru the black silicone holding the cover onto the door panel also there are two screws one by the latch ana one down the bottom when replacing you must locate the top rail of the cover behind an alloy locator which is hidden up the top this keeps the cover away from the glass and when you slide the cover into place at the same time feed in the window channel felt

When you open the door either above or below the latch there is one or two pot rivets - you need to drill out. Inside the door where you think it might be welded, sealant is actually holding the metal cover to the inside of the door. You need to cut carefully with a sharp blade. At the bottom of the metal cover you will find a philllips screw. Remove that and the cover should come away.
