How can I get my DVD to eject on Pioneer DVR-RT500?

While dubbing a VCR tape to a DVD on the Pioneer DVR-RT500 recorder, this error message came up: "Disc Checking - Please wait about 15 minutes" - the manual only says that if you get this error message - "the power was abruptly turned off before writing to the disc was completed" - the power was not abruptly (or slowly) turned off - was dubbing for a 3-hour program and there was no power surge, etc. as I was in the next room and had a timer on to stop the tape - and then found the above error message and now unable to eject the DVD and the error message just stays on the screen - unplugged the recorder and plugged it in again and waited 5 minutes, and repeated this procedure many times, but this did not solve the problem. Any solutions to this problem?

Hey,

I've had this happen a few times now. It took me a few tries to get it, but I found that when I pushed the "Eject" button on the remote or component before the "Reading" logo is up for more than a few seconds, it ejects.

Step By Step:
I turned the system off > turned it back on > just after the red "Pioneer" logo clears (when the tv picture comes back and the "Reading" caption appears), push the "DVD Eject" and wait a few seconds > the tray ejects.

Hello, Bev. Give this a try--Unplug your DVD recorder for several hours. Just to make sure unplug it for about a day. Then plug it in and see if that solved the problem. Sometimes electronic devices need plenty of time to completely discharge their power and reset. If this doesn't work, you might want to send an email to Pioneer's customer service. Sometimes the solution(s) came after the manual was made.

Good Luck, Todd
