Hi-I've just had the same problem - they don't make this model anymore but I did a bit of research and a Morphy Richards paddle for a 48260/48280 model fits/works perfectly. I bought one for £6 inc postage on ebay from the seller 'Seaviewshavers'. search on 'MORPHY RICHARDS Breadmaker kneading blade' and make sure it's designed for one of the models above.
Also if you need a manual for your XBM1038 the current Argos 'Value Breadmaker' is a newer version of this Cookworks model (XBM1068) so has v similar instructions if you can get hold of one to photocopy.
Hope this helps!

Someone told me that the Morphy Richards Fast Bake model has the same paddle. I have searched for a breadmaker that looks almost identical and the part number is 48280. I have ordered the part and will let you know if it fits. Failing that I will take the bread tin with me and go into local stores and try every one of the bread maker paddles I see. Again i will let you know if I don't get arrested for strange behaviour!!
