how do I dry out a nintendo ds lite which went through washing machine?

the ds went through the washing machine and nothing now display on the screen

REALISTICALLY - its a write off.
Some MINOR water ingress can be tolerated, but from your description I would expect that even of it does initially recover it will fail again.
Ther PCB will have been severely damaged.
I suggest you bite the bullet and replace it. Any outlay on repair is likely to be wasted

my son did this too! some suggested deassembling the ds and allowing it to dry out before reassembling and trying ... im in the waiting stages for it to dry - will keep you posted (i'm sooo hoping it works)

If you remove immediately an accumulator from NDS you have a chance to repair it. Open it and clean all parts with ethanol. You can keep the electronics inside of the liquids. Just be careful with things like PVC parts - some of them can dissolve. Unfortunately, the chances to repair it are not so high.
