Chaffoteaux/Maury 100 Combi - C/H fine - Hot Water Probs?

Had this boiler for 10 years and after some initial teething problems, has worked fine. Recently, although the heating continues to work fine, when the hot water taps are used, the boiler groans. If you run a basin full - the water temp is fine and needs cold water added. However, if you run a bath, the water is luke warm and that's if you can stand the noise from the boiler. Any ideas?

the boiler sound like the secondary heat exchanger requires replacement. this is a common fault pn the chaffoteaux as the exchanger scales up and this restricts transfer of heat into cold water to make it hot

the boiler has no way of knowing which tap is opened, so if the water is ok at the basin it should be ok at the bath. make sure the flow rate is not too high at the bath. as bath taps are usually piped in 22mm / 3/4" pipe it often seems that the water is running about the same flow rate as from the basin, although it may be a good bit more. try slowing the tap down and see how that affects the temperature. best way to check is using a weir gauge / flow cup to set flow rate.
