First let me say, I'm not a repair technician.
I have the same issue. I opened the front panel and investigated what was running on the inside to see if I could determine what the issue might be.
For me the drive motor continues to run, but the drive belt doesn't move. (I came home to the smell of burnt rubber. Not Good.)
For me it appears, based on some searches online that either the transmission or pulley attached to the transmission is frozen.
My washing machine is about 8 years old and I'm debating on whether it would be better to replace that part (or those parts) or just buy a new more energy efficient model.
