how can I fix my sony digital 8 handycam?

I have a Sony digital handycam , digital 8,steadyshot digital effect , DCR-TRV140 , The problem is when it is on , just looking at the LCD the picture has shadows on most things and if I record with it , it plays back with the shadows, but if I play a tape that was recorded before this problem started it will play back just fine. I have checked to make sure that the nightshot is off and everything else is in the right mode . I tryed adjusting the exposure lighting with the sel/push exec button on the back of the unit but I cannot get the shadows out , But I did notice when I had it in the exposure mode the bar indicater is 3/4 of the way over to the right , and if I move it back to the left 1/2 way the screen is just about black. I hope someone can advise my what to do. Also is it worth fixing if I have to take it in to get it fixed. thanks !
