How can I fix my ER290?

Hi I have a ER290 till that will not allow me to carry out a transaction. I can input the sales total eg £2.00 then I go and press the dept 1 key like I have always done in the past and all I get is the error alarm. I have checked the programming and cleared the RAm but there is no change. Any ideas???
