We have recently moved house and have inherited this pump. It never seems to stop running, day or night, even with the boiler off. Surely this can't be right?
sounds to me that the actuator is stuck open on the 2 or 3 port valve, only thing that will over ride programmer etc (plastic box with a wire coming out of it sitting on a brass body on the heating & hot water pipes normally in the airing cupboard)

Check and see how it's been wired up.
Typically it should be under the control of the boiler - if so, then the boiler over-ride electrics are poss faulty.
