How can I fix the USB mouse to laptop?

I hv Celeron Laptop with Windows XP, recently I hv purchased USB mouse with inbuit driver. After connecting mouse to Laptop, curser is not moving. In the system device it shows unknow device. when the same mouse I had connected to my desktop it is working. Pl. let me know solution to get it start on my laptop
