how to remove rear brake drum on Ford ka?

How can I remove the rear brake drum on my ford Ka 3?
David Shale, November 2004

done
DO NOT REMOVE THE RETAINER AND 4 NUTS.

take off the tyre then Undo the 4 bolts on the back and the whole lot will come off together, its a little hard to get it back on but this is the easiest and least expensive way, unfortunatley I did it the hard way on one side which cost me a fortune.

once you have removed the wheel, chock the front wheels and let off the handbrake. Remove the center cap of the hub (a hammer and srewdriver will do). Undo the big nut, if too tight check the thread to make sure its not left hand thread. Remove the outer bearing and hit the top outer edge of the drum whilst spinning it with a hammer. this should help removal. if it still wont come off you will need to use a lever between the back plate and the drum.

I can tell you that this answer is far from complete.

On my 97 Ford Ka the larrge (27 mm AF) nut is held in place by a metal retainer that must be prised open. Then, when you open the nut you find that it is actually made up of a number of thin nuts. I managed to get off there of thes and then got stuck!

jack the car up and take the wheel off. in the centre of the hub will be a big nut. undo that and remove the drum. if its stuck you may have to use a pullers.
