timing on opel ?

how to set timening on a opel corsa1.4 i have set crank pully markers on its mark ,cam pully on its mark ,1rst piston rocks and cam rocks down on no 4 but it stil misses , can you help please

have you got 1st piston at top dead centre even if not lined up proply would cause missing and know and again back firing
