How can I fix my copier?

I have a canon GP225 B&W copier. I recently replaced the photoreceptor OPC drum and cleaning blade.
The copies are now very poor with washed out areas and faint. There has been a littlle improvement with time. Did I expose the drum to too much light when I replaced it? It was exposed for about 15 minutes.
Is the answer a new drum or will it recover with time?
May there be some other issue causing the copies to be patchy?
