my broadband modem is acting as a 56k dial up insted of 576kbs any ideas?

The model is a bt voyager 105 usb adsl modem. When I download items it does it really slow, sometimes as slow as 30kb/s when it states the speed as running at 576kb/s. I have had error messages that say "gawsub" followed by a number and the p.c crashes. I looked at the driver and it says its running normally!? Have I connected it properly? or could there be another reason? Any help would be a godsend! cheers.

Yeah cheers Terry it worked mate I just had to change the place of the microfilter and I ran a speed test and everythings up to scratch. Thankyou

What would be really nice would be a few people commenting on answers. Even if just to say p**s o*f, you're wrong. Even that might help others with the same problems. Or if right a Thankyou.

First of all you can check the ADSL installation. You should either have a dual socket BT box on the wall. Your ADSL modem goes into the small (RJ11) socket and the telephone into the standard BT type socket. Alternatively you will have a standard BT socket into whch you plug a filter which itself has two sockets as described above. If you have extension sockets then ALL of them must have a filter into which you plug any extension phones. You could also ask BT to check that ADSL is working on your line. (BTW. They spent weeks arguing with me that it was and it wasn't.)

Having got that right if you still have a problem. I assume that your modem is attached via USB. Uninstall the modem driver and reinstall following the installation instructions TO THE LETTER. People often plug things in in the wrong sequence and some USB device take exception to it.
