Sometimes the contacts on the card or reader get dirty, which makes it difficult to retrieve data. Try cleaning the contacts with a Q-tip and some isopropyl alcohol. Make sure you give the alcohol a few minutes to dry. If this doesn't work, try leaving the SD card in your camera and plugging it directly into your computer. Or, you can try another SD card reader.
