black page on Canon pc 7re?

Our scout group have been given a canon pc 7re photocopier. everything works paper wise but the print is very black image of original which is just visible. before I spend anything from £49 - £100 on a new cartridge is there anything else I should check.

Try taking off auto to manual and experiment with different settings, starting near left hand of adjuster

Check your optics and charge &/or discharge .

I'm not sure if this unit uses lamps or coronas.
If you have "sticks" with a fine wire in the middle, you can clean it off with and eraser, if lamps use alcohol and a clean cloth.

the corona wires are only microns thick so be careful.
