i have got the gear box light come on in my automatic scenic and was told it needed a oil change,if i was to stop and turn off engine each time it comes on am i doing harm

There is NO need to change the ATF until you reach the moment when the computer says so. The transmission will require work well before then so no need to beforehand. Also the other post says to clean out filter pick up. To do that requires box to be removed and partially stripped. The fault light tells you that you have fault(s) get codes read. most common is pressure regulation. For specialist www.fedauto.co.uk
