What tool do you need to take the fly wheel off to replace a shear pin ?

What type of tool do you need to take the fly wheel off of a Craftsman push mower to replace the shear pin.
I tried it with gear puller but that did not work. I also took a hammer and hit the top someone said that works. Please advise. Thanks

Never hit the crank with a hammer, there should be a hole either side of the flywheel, close to the crankshaft, make a plate with holes that line up with the holes in the flwheel, screw the flywheel nut on loose, tighted two screws evenly through the plate into the flywheel, this will take it off
