Hi, my scanner fell on floor. It was less than 2ft, but now doesn't work. something is dislodged. How do I know if the optical is damaged? It turns on, but doesn't scan or read. A note pops up and says unable to read document. I noticed a little metal piece on the pulley cord dragging along with the cord as it moved but the scanner didn't move. Is it beyond repair? It is almost ten years old, but was working perfectly...Pleasee advise.

You'll need to take it apart to see if anythihng is stuck / broken inside.
