why my dc01 wont work?

When I push my dyson DC01 over the carpet it is sucking however when i remove the tube to do stairs etc it dont work
The brush roller is operational, all filters have been changed but it picks up nothing. I dont think it is blocked either.
Any ideas please.

Could be a number of reasons, the handle is blocked (2p usually)? the hose is blocked? The rubber inspection flaps have something obstructing them? Or if you look under the semi circular inspection flap (inbetween bottom of hose and inspection flap) you may see a yellow plastic piece depending on how old it is. If you press it does it spring back or is it loose. If its loose that is your problem and will require an engineer visit.
