how do i raise the handle bars on my GT tempest mountain bike as ive tried undoing the centre screw and still cannot move them

the gt tempest has a a-head stem fitting you cant rise the stem unless you buy an extension or change to a different stem with a higher angle.

turn out the screw a little then tap it with a hammer. hold the wheel with your knees and twist the bars
