Why does my Alba DVD player only play inblack and white?

I moved house recently and now that I have set up my DVD player it only plays in black and white, although towards the end of the disc it tries to show some colours, but never quite makes it

try switching your Tv from Ext 1 to Ext 2 or similar

Probably your DVD or TV have changed between PAL and NTSC or SECAM colour systems (check the manuals) or, if you play to the TV on a channel, it has gone off-tune.
