I plugged my emerson smartset to 240v. It glowed for some time?

I unknowingly plugged my emerson smartset to 240v. It glowed for some time and then went dead. Is there any way to ment it. It is new and present from my daughter.

If it is a 110-120 volts, then it may be fried up. This is just the same way that happened to my Smith Corona SL575 Electric typewriter. Haven't you checked its voltage? If it is 120 volts, it must need a voltage converter.
