Ariston washing machine arcing electricity?

Hi there, our Ariston washing machine appears to be arcing electricity between brushes and commutator (we think) when it is in spin cycle. The machine is still working otherwise. Anyone got any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it? Your ideas gratefully received.

I would guess that the motor is asking for new brushes -carbon brushes deliver electrical power to the rotating part of the motor.There are videos on YouTube that show how easy it is to replace them.
