We are due to have our leaking immersion tank replaced very soon in order to get the correct new tank how do I identify what it is - direct or indirect?
any help really appreciated,

direct means the water in the cylinder is heated only by the immersion heater, indirect means the cylinder is also heated by a central heating boiler, which is connected to the cylinder via an integral 'coil' within it.

direct cylinders generally have 2 pipes connected to it, indirect cylinders have 4.
