The same thing happened to me - I paid for an indesit engineer to come out and repair it (£150).
It sounds like you have a dodgy heating element. You can order the part online from indesit. fiirst of all simply unscrew the lid - and see if you can locate the element (it is a black coil about 7inchs long). If you can find the coil its only an matter of ordering the part and replacing it.
May be alot cheaper than getting the indesit mechanic out.
