Garage Roof replacement?

My corrugated asbestos garage roof is out of its sell by date.
Thought of replacing it with exterior ply (for some insulation) and then topping it with corrugated bitumen sheets for complete water proofing. Does it make sense or is there a better way?

45mm pu steel sheets covered in plastisol
Approx £25 PER 3M X 1M Sheet (coverage size allowing for overlap)

Did it on my own for £200, August 2012
Asbestos isn't half as dangerous as they say. I worked with it for years about 45 years ago, I'm 68 now, and it's never done me any harm. My lungs are as good as the day I was born. and we didn't have masks and god knows what to protect us! All these stupid regs are, for the most part, uneccessary. Unfortunately the H&S have to justify their existence so they keep thinking up new ways to mollycoddle and brainwash us into thinking we're a bunch of morons who are not safe to be let out alone! Just use common sense and only follow rules where you absolutely have to!

can you give me a ballpark price to remove & replace a garage roof?

Eddie, March 2010
You can remove it yourself, providing you have taken precautions to protect yourself and neighbours (others) as per Section 2 of H&S at Work Act etc 1974. You must, however, follow local guidance as to the disposal of the asbestos material. Mine states that it must be kept whole (not smashed up) where possible in sheets and it should be wrapped in visqueen and bagged in red 'hazardous material' bag. My council will provide up to 3 sets of bagging materials and allow up to 3 deposits of up to 3 sheets to the local tip per year (showing proof of residence each time).

If you have more, you need to contact a local waste disposal company, such as SITA.

you can't use loft insulation on an exterior garage . it liable to damp & moister. 8 x 4 marine ply then proper roof felt & bitumen sealed

tj roofing, September 2006
asbestos needs to be removed by a specialist.
for insulation i would suggest rolls of loft insulation or foam sheets
and fasten the bitumen sheets on top.
