How can I repaire my Dyson DC04 de Stijl vacuum cleaner?

The mains cable has snapped near the point of attachment to the on/off switch. I cannot find a way to get in side the plastic casing to remove the old cable and replace with a new one. Any ideas please?

Search VacuumSpot on You Tube. Really helpful site. You don't need a new cable. Just cut off the damaged bit.
