How can I install laminate flooring?

I have a small 4' x 5' entry way that I want to install laminate flooring in. I'm not sure how to butt it up against the carpeting and what type of trim would work best to join the laminate and carpeting, which will be on two sides of it. The third side will butt against the door threshold and the other will be against the wall. How do I keep it "floating" when I have to join it to the carpet with metal or wood strips???

You can still keep it a floating floor. You need the foam under layment which is about 1/4 of inch or so. Lay that on top of subfloor, not carpet or padding. Put laminate floor down and as far as meeting the carpet, you just need to buy a transition piece that has a step down to carpet. Home Depot or Lowes, you'll find it there in the flooring section. At the threshold put 1/4 round and at the side against the wall.
